Sarah is the Clinical Lead Dietitian at the All-Wales Adult Inherited Metabolic Disease (IMD) Service, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board. She has worked in adult dietetics for over 20 years, specialising in adults with IMDs for the past nine years. Sarah is passionate about promoting and delivering high quality dietetic care and service improvements to support those living with IMDs. She has recently achieved her MSc Advanced Healthcare Practice from Cardiff University.
The All Wales IMD service is a tertiary service which looks after adults from across Wales with an Inherited metabolic disorders. IMDs are rare, genetic conditions that affect normal metabolism. Most people with an IMD have a gene alteration that causes an enzyme deficiency which can affect the building of vital materials, brain function, energy production and removal of waste and toxins. For many of these disorders, diet is the primary treatment.
